Flared-Base Dildo

A flared-base dildo is a term for a type of sex toy with a phallic shape and wide, flat base. These dildos are usually made from "rubbery" materials like silicone or jelly, but they can be manufactured from a variety of substances including glass or stainless steel.

Like other dildos, the body of a flared-base dildo is longer than it is wide and insertable. This tapered shape is ideal for vaginal and anal penetration. However, its flat base sets it apart from other dildos. The bases of flared-base dildos take a variety of shapes. Flared-base dildos with T-bars, suction cups, large rings, and testicle-shaped mounds are all common. The wide base prevents users inserting a flared-base dildo too far. It also provides something to hold on to for easier withdrawal after deep penetration. This is vital for anal penetration, as the anus can suck sex toys deeper inside than intended especially when the muscles contract during orgasm.

You may attach the flat base of a flared-base dildo to other sex toys such as strap-on harnesses or sex machines and consoles. People may attach a flared-base dildo to a sex harness for vaginal and anal strap-on sex. Using a flared-base dildo in this way lets people without penises penetrate their partner. Using a flared-base dildo, rather than a double-ended dildo, is a great option for people new to pegging, as it allows the giving partner to focus on their receiving partner’s pleasure, without the distraction of being simultaneously penetrated. Attaching a flared-based dildo to a sex machine or furniture designed to hold a dildo can add variety to solo or couples play.

You could also use a flared-base dildo on its own for penetration or clitoral stimulation. People may use their flared-base dildo in this way on their own or with a partner. Some people may enjoy watching their partner use the dildo on themselves. Others enjoy taking control and penetrating their partner with a flared-base dildo they manipulate by hand. This gives them greater control of the depth and angle of penetration. You might attach a flat-based dildo with a suction cup to a flat, smooth surface, such as a table, wall, or sex toy mount, for hands-free stimulation.

More About Flared-Base Dildo

Using lubricant with a flared-base dildo can make insertion easier and more pleasurable. As flared-base dildos are made from a variety of materials, you should only use a water-based lubricant with most of these sex toys. Water-based lubricants are suitable for dildos made from a variety of materials. If you prefer silicone- or oil-based lubricants, check whether they are compatible with your flared-based dildo. The wrong lubricant can eat away at the dildo’s material. Apply the most suitable lubricant for your flared-base dildo liberally, especially for anal penetration, as the anus does not produce any natural lubricant.

While flared-base dildos are great for couples' play, some sex experts recommend getting comfortable with your dildo on your own before introducing them to a partner. This approach helps you familiarize yourself with how deeply you can insert them and how they feel in your own body. Your experiences can help you guide a partner or know how far to insert them into your lover.

Even when you feel comfortable with a flared-base dildo, it never hurts to go slow. Gentle, slow penetration, especially when you’re trying something new, can make the experience easier and more pleasurable. You might like to try inserting a finger or two first, before the flared-base dildo, to get the body used to the penetration. Having an orgasm before trying penetration with a dildo can also help the body relax for all types of penetration, and it can help lubricate the vagina.

Like all dildos, you should carefully clean and store your flared-base dildos. Store your dildos in their own storage bags, away from other sex toys. You should clean your flared-base dildos thoroughly with soap and water before you use them. Clean them after every use and before use if they've been in storage for a while. Take extra care if you use your flared-base dildo for anal penetration as the anus has more harmful bacteria than the vagina. Don't move your flared-base dildo between the anus and vagina without cleaning it thoroughly first.
