Every October, we put out a call to readers to vote for their favorite sex blogs. We’ve run this list every single year since rolling it out in 2013 (please forgive the graphics - we were a brand-new site with VERY limited resources!)
However, even though we received dozens of responses from readers and supporters saying they’d voted for us, those votes and comments never appeared on Forbes’ site.
Reality check. We were in the sex ed space and, as a result, there were a lot of places where we - and many others - just weren’t welcome.
And, frankly, we thought that was total BS. So, we decided to launch our own party. There is so much sex education needed out there and we wanted to not only help people find it, but to celebrate it. We also believed sex bloggers were on the forefront in this space, especially on topics like kink, BDSM, LGBTQ-friendly and inclusive content, and anything more mainstream publications considered too “taboo” to touch.
Speaking more personally, I also really believe in the mission behind this list. When we launched Kinkly, one of the things that inspired me is that I had gotten a lot of my sex ed online. Whereas in my own life questions about sex tended to met with a closed door, the internet was full of places that were informative, unbiased and open-minded. It made me feel empowered. And safe. It made feel like when I came to sex, I would be OK. And it made me think about how many other people out there need that, whether they want to learn about contraception, or pleasure, or orgasms, or kink, or just get the information from someone who understands what they were going through.
Sex Blogging Superheroes was designed to celebrate top bloggers and what they bring to the world as well as use our platform to show people that no matter who you are or what you're into, there's probably a resource out there for you. Please note that this list - any list - is just a snapshot of what's out there. You can find more awesome blogs in our more comprehensive Sex Blogger Directory. There are other great lists out there as well that might present a different perspective or flavor, including the lists run by Molly's Daily Kiss and Sexual Alpha. If you're unfamiliar with Sex Blogging Superheroes, new to the list and wondering how you got here, or want to be involved next year, you can find answers to your questions here. This year we'll be donating to each category winner's charity of choice. We hope this helps expand the good we and sex blogging community can do. Have other questions about this year's list?
