More more and more often, Kinkly receives sex toy samples and gifts from sponsors, affiliates and marketers. They are, quite literally, coming in by the crate-full, guys. The mail carrier does give me some strange looks these days but otherwise, this isn't a terrible problem to have. And, even though receiving sex toys in the mail is becoming a regular thing, staggering in with the latest shipment is still a bit of a rush.
It sometimes makes me wonder just how many sex toys a person really needs. Before I started working at Kinkly, I kind of assumed that a lot of people had a sex toy. I figured some people even had two or three. But it honestly never occurred to me to have five or seven or - like many sex toy reviewers we know - a collection of hundreds of vibes and dildos and other sexual fiddly bits. One thing I've learned, however, is that vibrator collections tend to grow. (And grow.) You get yourself a decent vibrator and think, "There. Now that's taken care of." And then, before you know it, you find yourself rummaging through a whole drawer of candy-colored toys, and digging through a tangle of different vibrator charging cords and wondering exactly when it was you became a collector of such things.
Here's the thing, though. There are a lot of really good vibrators out there. And, once you fall in love with one, it kind of makes you wonder what else is out there, what's waiting just beyond your current orgasmic horizon.
Perhaps you've heard of a phenomenon called the hedonic treadmill. Well, I'm here to tell you that using a vibrator can lead to a sort of orgasmic treadmill situation, but (and trust me on this one) it isn't one you'll want to get off. In case you aren't convinced, here are a few reasons why it pays to have more than one vibrator at the ready.
More Vibrators Means More Sensations
When I say there are a lot of different vibrators out there, I don't mean that there are a lot that are the same. And even the ones that look relatively similar can produce totally different sensations. Slight differences in shape, materials, the motor, settings, power, etc. can all really affect your orgasmic experience. So, just because you already have, say, a powerful corded wand massager (and, let's be real, you should - it's a classic!), doesn't mean you shouldn't reach for a different one. A different brand could provide a different type or style of vibration, or you might want the options that some of the newer rechargeable wands provide. There are also many different styles of vibrators, including rabbit vibes, clitoral vibes, G-spot vibes and more. Just because you've tried one vibrator doesn't mean you've tried them all. Who knows what you're missing?
Different Vibes Are Good for Different Things
If you're like me, you probably have duplicates of all kinds of things in your house. Not because you're a hoarder or pack-rat, but because the slight differences between those things is what makes them practical for a particular use. Well, the same goes for vibrators. There are vibrators that are good for staying home and others that make great travel companions. Some work well with a partner. Some are fun in the bath. It really depends on what you're looking for. And, the more discerning you become, the more vibes you're likely to keep on hand. Because once you know there's a better tool for the job, why wouldn't you choose to use it?
It's a Security Thing
Good quality vibrators tend to last, but it's nice to have backup. Batteries can die. Or maybe you'll get into a situation where you need more than one (lucky you!). Just like having a few tools around the house or keeping a first-aid kit, having a well-stocked sex drawer is one of those things that tends to just, you know, come in handy.
Good Vibrators Make You Think
Oh, and if you don't have a great vibrator in your collection yet, I can tell you one thing for sure: once you find the one that delivers the gloriously sublime orgasm you never even knew you had in you, it won't be long before you're looking for a new one. Not because you aren't satisfied with the one you have, but because you ARE and because figuring that out kinda makes you wonder what else you haven't discovered yet.
