Flying Missionary Position

Updated: MARCH 30, 2022

The Flying Missionary Sex Position is probably one of the first sex positions that any couple does when they get a sex swing. Not only is it simple to understand, but it's simple for most couples to get into.

Flying Missionary Sex Position. The receiving partner takes a seat in a sex swing and lays back. The penetrating partner stands between the receiving partner's thighs to penetrate.

If you have physical disabilities, it will be important to consider just how accessible this position and equipment is. The Flying Missionary position is a position supported by most almost all sex swings, so it doesn't require a specific type of swing to try this one out.

To get into the Flying Missionary Sex Position, the receiving partner steps (or is placed) into the straps or seat of the sex swing. From there, the receiving partner lays back and spreads their legs, as much as they are able. We appreciate that some people, due to chronic illness or disability, are unable to spread their legs. The receiving partner can hang onto the straps of the swing - or the hand grips - for support while lying back. You may want to consider the dexterity, as well as the trunk control of the receiving partner, as many disabled people are unable to hold themselves up fully, despite supports. Consider this prior to use, and have a conversation about it also. The penetrating partner then steps between the spread legs for intercourse.

More About Flying Missionary Position

One of the simplest positions to explore with a sex swing, the Flying Missionary Sex Position can be a great way to acclimate yourselves to the feel of a sex swing. The Flying Missionary takes a position that's familiar to most couples and allows them to experience how the position can feel without the sensation of a bed beneath them. Since the position can be as simple as sitting on a swing, this gives most couples the comfort needed to explore different angles during the Flying Missionary while getting to know the feel of surfaceless sex. Surfaceless sex can also be great for full time wheelchair users to get pressure off their bodies, but you want to consider comfort and accessibility while in the sling as well.

Getting the exact sex swing height required to perfectly match up with the penetrating partner's hips can be a challenge. If the penetrating partner is particularly tall (and the receiving partner is particularly short), this can mean that the sex swing, at the necessary height, will be too tall for the receiving partner to get into comfortably. If you want to preset the height of the sex swing before use, the receiving partner can use a chair or step stool to carefully get into the taller swing, or the penetrating partner can help lift the receiving partner into the swing.

Depending on your brand of sex swing, you may also be able to adjust the sex swing's height while a person is already sitting in it, but this may require being able to support enough of the seated partner's body weight in order to relieve tension on the swing enough to adjust the length. This may not be feasible for everyone.

Depending on what angle is required to hit the perfect pleasure spot for the receiver's body, the receiver may find it difficult to hold the leaned-back angle required to get the penetrating partner into the "perfect" spot. If that's the case, this sex position can be taken to the wall. The receiving partner can rest their upper body against the wall - which reduces the need to actively support body weight. (When using a door sex swing like the Door Jam Sex Sling Special Edition, the wall will conveniently be right next to the swing for support.)
