A pulsator is a sex toy which aims to simulate the sensations of sexual intercourse. As its name suggests, a pulsator pulsates and thrusts backwards and forwards instead of simply vibrating. This deeper, low-frequency motion seeks to replicate the feeling of sexual intercourse more accurately than a traditional vibrator. European sex toy company Fun Factory was one of the first to release pulsators.

Pulsators are can be used vaginally or anally (as long as they have a flared base!), to stimulate the G-spot or the prostate. They can be operated hands-free and mimic a range of sexual positions to give users a more satisfying and emotional experience.
Pulsators typically have a range of speeds and thrusting patterns. While pulsators are different from vibrators, at high speeds it’s difficult to detect a difference between these sex toys. Like with vibrators, users may also enjoy using their pulsator with a water-based lubricant.
Pulsators are typically made up of a metal shaft encased in easy-to-clean, 100% medical-grade silicone. It’s recommended that users clean their pulsator before their first use, and then after each use with mild soap and warm water.
