If I use a sex toy for anal play, will it get contaminated?

Q:

I bought a body-safe silicone dildo and I was hoping to use for oral (giving the toy a blow job) and anal play (with a condom). I'm a bit of a germophobe. My concern is that the dildo has a suction cup base and balls. So, while the shaft will be covered by the condom, the coconut oil I'm using for lube might slide down the shaft and get on the base. I plan on thoroughly washing this toy with antibacterial dish soap and hot water but was wondering if what I'm doing is enough? I would ideally like to use just the one toy for both oral and anal (always washing in between each action).

A:

This is a great question! Given that the toy is silicone, you are in luck because that means it's not just washable, it can actually be sanitized! With silicone toys that don't have motors (such as dildos) ,you can disinfect them by either boiling them (just in a pot on the stove) or running them through the dishwasher on the top rack.

I would wash the toy with soap and water after using it and then either put it through the dishwasher (top rack, without dishes) or boil it for 3-5 minutes. This will keep your toy as good as new between uses. And yes, it will then be safe to use for anything you'd like.
