Kinky Sex Furniture: A New Adventure in Bondage

Published: NOVEMBER 29, 2021 | Updated: DECEMBER 1, 2021 04:06:30
Nestled neatly at the junction of BDSM dungeon furniture and any old sex wedge is kinky sex furniture.

Building a kink dungeon is on the wishlist of most kinksters, but for almost all, it just isn't feasible. Not only does it require an entire room, but most people balk at the cost - not to mention how to hide all of the very-naughty secrets that room will contain!

You don't need to buy an entire dungeon just to enjoy a bit of kink fun once you've outgrown some of the intro kink kits that you've bought over the years. You just need a few pieces of kinky sex furniture!

What IS Kinky Sex Furniture?

Different than hardcore BDSM sex furniture that would furnish a dungeon, most sex furniture is primarily designed for sexual and intercourse use - but not necessarily kink activities.

I've written entire (amazing, I think) articles about sex furniture itself, but the basics are that it:

  • Is used to change up positions during sex.
  • Provides support to your bodies.
  • Allows for more pleasure.
  • Creates better angles.
  • Adds comfort.
  • Offers a wider breadth of available sex positions.

BDSM dungeon furniture definitely isn't designed for much of that!

Kinky furniture is slightly different than standard sex furniture, though. Instead of being just for better intercourse, these sex furniture pieces are equipped with bondage points for kinky restraints. This allows them to be used for bondage - in addition to better sex!

Think of kinky sex furniture like any other piece of sex furniture - with some additional parts that make it a perfect fit for bondage. It's still a piece of sex furniture - only it has the ability to add in bondage whenever you want!

It Can All Vary in Size

While most BDSM dungeon furniture is at least the footprint of an armchair, that isn't the case with kinky sex furniture. Kinky sex furniture can really vary in size - just like regular sex furniture does.

Some kinky sex furniture pieces, like the Liberator Black Label Wedge, are just the size of a large duffel bag - and are designed to be used on top of the bed. Placed on top of the floor or a bed, these smaller sex furniture options instantly change the surface of your bed from "flat" to "angled". These pieces of kinky sex furniture get held down by your body weight when you lay on top of it to anchor it in place, so you get the stability of a larger piece without the size.

Other kinky sex furniture, like the Liberator Equus Wave or the Black Label Esse Chaise, are the size of a couch. While this (obviously) takes up more space than something you can fit in a dresser drawer, it also offers a whole lot more ways to use it.

It really just depends on what you want and what you need. If you have the space for a full-sized piece of Liberator sex furniture, that can be worth it. Full-sized pieces tend to offer hundreds of different sex positions - and it's just hot-as-hell to have an entire piece of your furniture dedicated specifically to having amazing sex.

It Can be Used as Regular Sex Furniture

While you can make the argument that some BDSM dungeon furniture doubles as sex furniture, that isn't usually the case. A St. Andrew's Cross, for example, doesn't really provide a whole lot of available surfaces if you're hoping to get new angles during intercourse.

That makes it another point for "Team Kinky Sex Furniture". Kinky sex furniture is just like their non-kinky counterparts - only there are bondage points attached! Especially useful for couples who enjoy intercourse in addition to bondage, you can use the bondage when you feel like it. When you don't feel like it, it still functions perfectly as a way to enhance your sex life.

Since upgrading to a "kinky" version of most sex furniture is a nominal cost addition (like the Liberator Hipster to the Liberator Black Label Hipster), this is usually a good choice if you both already like a bit of kink already.

Designed for Comfort

If you're looking for hard, unforgiving steel, you're probably best off going with BDSM dungeon furniture - and there's nothing wrong with that! Metal toys and dark colors can give off a certain ambiance that most kinky sex furniture doesn't recreate.

However, what most kinky sex furniture offers that BDSM dungeon furniture doesn't is plushy comfort. The majority of kinky sex furniture is made from high-density foam. While frames may be made out of wood to help provide support for the piece of furniture, the rest of the furniture is made out of this extremely supportive foam - which makes for a seriously plushy surface!

Don't let the idea of "foam" make you think of your memory foam bed, either. This high-density stuff is a category to itself. It's extremely supportive and barely dents under a couple of hundred pounds. Add another partner on top, and the compression is still very, very minimal.

What high-density foam offers is soft, cushioning sensations that cradle your body while still remaining solid enough to retain its shape. You can put down knees and elbows, and the surface will cushion around them; no sharp pain here!

Know What Cuffs It Can Use

Some proprietary kinky sex furniture (looking at you, Liberator!) comes with its own proprietary attachment system. If you're brand new to Liberator, that can work just fine. Some of the Liberator sex furniture pieces use easy-attach buckles. These nylon buckles make it extremely easy to attach the included cuffs to the included piece of sex furniture.

However, they may make it difficult to add other pieces to your play. After all, any bondage item you choose would need to have a buckle in order to work with your set - and that doesn't exist much outside of Liberator branded items.

Some kinky sex furniture, like the Liberator Talea spreader bar, get around that by including both buckles AND D-ring options right on the Talea itself.

If you love your Liberator Black Label bondage furniture (and it has those buckles), don't worry: all isn't lost! You can start using other types of accessories with your favorite sex shape by getting a D-Ring Connector Kit. These D-rings are attached to buckles - which can be buckled into your sex furniture to turn the buckle fastener into a D-ring bondage point that works with all types of bondage items!

Treat Your Pieces with Care

Most sex furniture is extremely durable - or else it couldn't hold up to the needs of passionate couples. However, it's still possible to harm your sex furniture if you aren't careful.

  • Take off any metal items that will come in constant contact with your sex furniture before playing. Belts, zippers, and buckles can rip holes with the constant back-and-forth motion of play. Items that won't have constant contact (like buckles on cuffs or blindfolds) should be treated with caution, but they're usually fine.

  • Don't keep your sex furniture submerged in liquid. Most sex furniture items are moisture-resistant - but not waterproof. Foam-style sex furniture can get waterlogged - and damaged. Some metal items can get rusty over time. If you know submersion of your sex furniture is on the docket, make sure your piece is designed for it. (Inflatable options are probably one of your best bets!)

  • Know your sex furniture's washing requirements - before you play with it. As much as it may suck at the time, make sure you adhere to those cleaning suggestions too. Improper cleaning can shorten the lifespan of your kinky sex furniture - and not cleaning it at all can build up some gross nasties you don't want to have sex with.

Suggestions for Accessories that Can Go the Distance

Regardless of what kinky sex furniture you choose, there are certain accessories that can really expand your usage of your sex furniture.

  • A Solid Set of Cuffs: Get yourself a great set of cuffs that fit well and feel great for you. As long as that set of cuffs has a single bondage point (like an O-ring or a D-ring), it'll work with almost all kinky sex furniture. If you don't have a sex of cuffs yet, some kinky sex furniture comes with cuffs (like the Liberator Bondi) for a shortcut to "already prepared"!
  • Double-Sided Clips: These bad boys can work on pretty much any piece of sex furniture - and that's what makes them so amazing! One side of the clip can grip onto your cuffs while the other side clips that cuff to a piece of sex furniture. It goes on in seconds and works with any bondage point out there (including those on most Liberator sex furniture pieces).
  • A Blindfold. Dude, a blindfold makes everything seem kinkier. It's like the easiest bondage cheat code out there.
  • Tethers: If you ever want more freedom to move around a bound limb, getting a set of tethers is an A+ decision. These adjustable tethers add extra length to any bondage point. Think of them like a double-sided clip - but adjustable up to 48" in length. Especially if binding the legs or using some of the larger kinky sex furniture options (like the Liberator Obeir Spanking Bench), adding extra length can increase comfort, make more positions possible, and give your partner room to stretch out and avoid a limb falling asleep.

Beginner & Kink-Friendly

All of this comes together to help kinky sex furniture be extremely friendly to kinky couples. Unlike building your own dungeon, kinky sex furniture doesn't need to take up a whole room - or even an entire closet! It can just be small, easy-to-use pieces that offer multiple benefits in the bedroom: better sex and easier bondage!

One of the coolest things about kinky sex furniture is how great it works for beginners AND how well it works for kinksters with years of experience. Both sets of people - and everyone in-between! - can really benefit from a piece of kinky sex furniture.

For beginners, kinky sex furniture can be the perfect catalyst for giving bondage a try. You both can enjoy the "sex furniture" aspect of the piece for years to come - and when you're ready, give the bondage a try.

I know the Liberator Black Label Wedge is one of the best-sellers for beginners to kinky sex furniture, and it works great for that. The velcro cuffs that can be escaped in seconds can be great for reassuring wary partners who aren't sure about giving it a try.

Experienced kinksters can find kinky sex furniture that fits their needs too. Not only do many experienced kinksters still enjoy some great sex in addition to their kink lives (which works well with sex furniture), but many of them also have space limitations. While they might be able to play with BDSM sex furniture at their local kink dungeon, they might not have the privacy or space to make that happen at home!

That's okay! Something like the Liberator Black Label Esse Chaise can be a fantastic fit for them too. Its flowing curves mean this piece can function as a spanking bench, breeding station, and great place for sex - all at once! The multitude of bondage points mean you can set up your partner wherever you want - for whatever activity. (I'll admit I've been salivating over the Black Label Esse Chaise lately - and that's with 12 years of kink experience under my belt!)

Either way, kinky sex furniture can be the best of both worlds - an amazing sex aid and a kink-friendly sex station. That saves money and space - and ensures you always have the gear you want to explore any of your fantasies.
