Dendrophilia

Updated: APRIL 8, 2019

Dendrophilia is a paraphilia where an individual is sexually aroused by trees. The term translates literally as "love of trees," but was adopted by sexology to describe some people's fetishistic interest in trees.

Dendrophilia may also be known as arborphilia.

More About Dendrophilia

Dendrophilia is mentioned in a few psychology texts and books about unusual sexual practices. In the "Encyclopedia of Unusual Sexual Practices," Dr. Brenda Love writes that in many ancient cultures, trees were seen as symbols of fertility. There are also a few modern-day cases of humans attempting to have sex with trees. However, whether this fetish actually exists isn't entirely clear since there are no academic or clinical studies published about it.
