Progesterone is a hormone produced by the ovaries, the adrenal glands, and, during pregnancy it is produced by the placenta. One of progesterone's biggest roles is to cause the endometrium to produce proteins in preparation for the implantation of a fertilized egg.

More About Progesterone

It is believed that high progesterone levels are partially responsible symptoms of premenstrual syndrome or PMS. Low progesterone levels can make conception difficult and can also impact desire and general well being. In these cases hormone replacement therapy may be prescribed.
