Domestic Group

Updated: FEBRUARY 25, 2019

A domestic group refers to any group of two or more people who share a home and food supply. In economics, this is referred to as a “household.” The relationship between members of a domestic group varies. Some domestic groups are in romantic relationship, such as domestic partners and married couples. Others are platonic, such as roommates or housemates.

More About Domestic Group

A domestic group usually shares control of their common dwelling and food. For instance, food is shared, but, at the same time, responsibility for acquiring the food is shared between equal partners. The same goes for their common dwelling. Rent, maintenance, and cleanliness are often shared responsibilities between equal partners. Legally, underage members of the domestic group are exempt from these responsibilities.
