A pomoromantic is a person who experiences romantic attraction, but is unwilling to define it within conventional ideas about gender and sexual preferences. These men and women may go out of their way to challenge these conventions. They refuse to label themselves and their partners. Likewise, they are unwilling to attach a conventional label to their romantic relationships.
Some people may criticize a pomoromantic for not making a stand about their orientation and relationships. This is an unfair misconception because it assumes that a pomoromantic has internalized homophobia. This is likely not the case for people who identify as pomoromantic. There is just a lack of information about pomoromanticism. Openness and understanding can go a long way when dealing with a relatively unpopular gender identity and sexuality.
