LGBTQIA is the abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual. It pertains to sexual identities outside the heterosexual sexual identity. It is an inclusive term that refers to the community as an organized entity. It is often used when talking about the political and social struggles of the community.

The use of LGBTQIA to describe the gender non-conforming collective was initiated by community activists and allies. It was later adopted by the public as the politically correct way to address community members. It may be used alternately with LGBT and LGBTQ, more popular abbreviations that omit people who identify as intersex and asexual.
