Thirst trap is a slang term used to refer to posts or images that are sexy or flirty in nature and designed to sexually entice others.

Thirst is, of course, a physical drive or craving. The term "thirst trap" implies that the images induce a craving or meet a need, in this case, a sexual one.

The term arose in the 2010s in response to social media's "selfie culture."

More About Thirst Trap

Thirst traps may appear on social media or dating apps, such as Tinder and Grinder. Posters often create and post these images deliberately and explicitly, including captions and hashtags to indicate they are posting a thirst trap.

People post thirst traps for a number of reasons, including to boost self esteem, express their sexuality, and promote their personal brand, as well as for financial reasons.

Although thirst trapping is often criticized as being narcissistic and even unhealthy, it has also been lauded as a form of empowerment, particularly among marginalized groups.
