The expression is meant to maintain the community's openness to everyone's kinks, while still being able to maintain one's boundaries.
The kink community tries to maintain a shame-free environment where everyone feels comfortable exploring their own kinks and desires. The YKINMK expression means to keep the dignity and safety of a person expressing a kink intact.
YKINMK is essential to understand, especially for newcomers in the community. Just as they wish to come and not be judged, they must not judge others for kinks they mind find repulsive or strange. More than just a saying, YKINMK is, in the context of consensual and personally responsible play, a way to be and act within the community.
YKINMK does not apply to play that is non-consensual, abusive, or that breaks the rules of the community you are engaging with. In these cases, Dungeon Monitors or leading members of a community can warn or ban people.
