The items used to piece a subject during in play piercing are removed at the end of each session and the wounds are allowed to heal. The needles placed in the skin during a play piercing session are typically just there for that session. These needles are typically placed so that both ends can be accessed, allowing for twisting and pulling on the them to deliver various sensations to the person being pierced. The endorphin high produced by play piercing is quite intense and, in some, can induce orgasm.

Kinkly explains Play Piercing

Play piercing should not be entered into lightly. It should only be done by trained practitioners using sterile hypodermic needles or acupuncture needles. Having rubbing alcohol or iodine on hand to wipe down the skin is a good idea. Proper play piercing is a fairly low-risk proposition but in the case of improper technique there is the risk of puncture wounds or blood-borne disease transmission.
