Trigender

Updated: JULY 1, 2019

Trigender refers to a gender identity in which an individual shifts between behaviors associated with male, female, and a third gender. Trigender is often associated with gender fluidity although it differs in that a trigender individual identifies with one gender specifically at a certain time, but shifts to another identification at another time. A gender fluid individual may identify with two or more genders simultaneously at one time.

More About Trigender

A trigender individual may identify with three different gender identities at different points in time. The shift may occur due to the mood or situation that the individual finds themselves in. Generally, a trigender individual will identify with male and female genders, as well as a third gender. The third gender may be genderless, non-gender, polygender, or any other genderqueer identity.
