The Vacation Romance How-to

Published: FEBRUARY 26, 2016 | Updated: FEBRUARY 15, 2022
Vacation romance can be super sexy and a great self-esteem lifter. Be safe, don't ditch your friends, and don't expect it to be more than it is.

If you’re anything like me, a vacation isn't just about getting some time at the beach - it's a great time to find some juicy vacation romance. A fling. An affair. Nothing boosts the self up like a quick romantic connection and dirty, dirty sex in places you know you shouldn’t have sex. Ah yes, just the thought of it is delicious. Then again, many of us flounder when it comes to having a holiday romance like a pro. Fear not, ladies. Here’s a quick guide on how to get this delicious little pleasure just right.

Come Prepared

Let’s not be coy here. Holidays are the best time for nookie and unless you’re with someone (and already getting nookie), and you're going to want it with someone sexy. The first step to making it happen is to feel sexy yourself. So get that wax (if that’s your thing), do your nails, and do whatever else makes you feel your best.Go for the Gold

In regular life, you would never go for that uber charming, hot, always shirtless, glistening surf instructor; the stuffy lawyer type is more your speed. However, this isn’t regular life. This is a holiday, so go for the impossible! Flirt with that hunk you wouldn’t normally talk to. Make out with the shy waiter after hours at the bar. Your chances are only limited by your own self worth. Do as Stella did and get your groove back by going for gold.Don’t Expect Anything More Than a Fling

This is an important bit of how-to. Holiday flings are a whirlwind by nature. You get all wrapped up in each other. Your defenses are down. You’re relaxed and in a new location. It’s easy to get carried away. It’s rare that anything comes out of a holiday fling, though. Sometimes couples start something more serious, but for the most part, the romance ends when your holiday does. It’s cool to keep in touch every once in a while, but don’t expect the guy to play long-distance boyfriend.

Don’t Waste Time

That’s right, you’re only there for a little while. Why play games? I mean, I’m not saying jump into bed with the first guy you see (unless you want to), but regular rules don’t apply. There is no need to wait, play coy, or to pretend you’re not interested. We’re all adults here and know what’s happening. Wasting time to play coy only means you’ll have less time for the fun bits!Remember Your Friends

Yes, your friends want you to have a good time, but being that person who ditches her friends to chase a fling isn't cool. Remember that you all came to have fun and spend time together. Plus, if your friends are angry with you, who are you going to share all the juicy gossip with?Be Safe

This is not the time to go bareback because he "said he was tested and was clean." Always be safe and use a condom. No matter what. Period.

Also, be aware of your surroundings and let your friends know where you’ll be. Don’t disappear without telling anyone. Not only is that irresponsible, but it makes it hard for people to look for you if something happens. Nothing ruins a good romance faster than an STD or some other trouble.Let Loose

Finally, let loose and have fun. You’re on vacation. And, while you probably won't find it in a travel brochure, there's nothing more exhilarating, relaxing and life-affirming that great sex.
