Gynesexuality

Gynesexuality refers to a person's sexual attraction to women, females and/or femininity. The term is rooted in the behavioral sciences. It describes one's sexual orientation without resorting to the gender binary. It describes attraction without referring to a person as heterosexual or homosexual. This prevents any bias or confusion. At the same time, it makes it easier to describe people who identify as intersex, transgender and genderqueer.

Gynesexuality is related to androsexuality. The terms are most often used in queer spaces. These and many other terms allow people of all sexualities and gender identities to embrace and express the way they experience sexual attraction. The popularization of words like gynesexuality gives people language that helps them fit outside the typical boxes of gay, straight or lesbian.
