This week’s edition of Sex Stories We Love is almost an entire school of adult sex education. We cover several topics from contraception to consent to communication and even the language we use to talk about sex. Whether you’re exploring something for the first time or are a lifelong learner, be prepared to spend some time learning something new.

Contraceptive Support Is Fashionable

Colorado legislators are making a fashion statement in their support of a bill that would fund long-acting, reversible contraceptives to women at little or no cost by wearing IUD earrings.
The idea was started by Rep. KC Becker, a Boulder Democrat. She told the Denver Post "It's fun to see if people notice them or not. Usually it's the women who can identify what that is. They are most familiar with what it looks like."

Even one male legislator who supports the bill, Rep. Bill Coram, a Republican from Montrose, wears one of the earrings as a lapel pin.

So far, the bill has won approval in its first House hearing. It now awaits action in another committee. A current program that’s funded with private money expires on June 30. That program contributed to a 42% decline in the state's teen abortion rate and a 39% drop in the teen birth rate over the past five years.

As for the earrings, they can be found on Etsy. They’re made by a crafter who is also a gynecologist.

The Consensual Slut Project

The war on slut shaming is a noble battle, but have some people gone a bit too far in waging that war? Kinkly Sex Blogging Superhero Cara Sutra thinks so...especially when she was told by a woman that the four letter "S" word "shouldn't be used, period." So, Sutra is taking a stand for herself and women like her who take pride in the empowering and consensual ways being a slut defines them with the Consensual Slut Project. Sutra's campaign emphasizes how the word "slut" can be used in sex-positive ways for and by people who choose to use it. As she puts it: "Don’t tell me that I should not enjoy being called a slut. To do this is to perpetuate the disrespect and oppression felt in particular by women throughout the previous centuries."

When Women Aren't Allowed to Consent

Great Britain recently passed a law making it illegal for people to pierce labias and clitorises. While the law is intended to protect women and girls from female genital mutilation (FGM), it doesn’t distinguish female genital piercings on women who have them for adornment. It also holds piercers criminally responsible for doing such procedures even with an adult woman’s consent. As Marcus Henderson, spokesperson for the Tattoo and Piercing Industry Union, was quoted on the BBC website, "It undermines the serious nature of FGM to in any way compare it to a consensual body piercing. FGM is often carried out on minors by force and clearly without consent."

What's It Like to Go to a Sex Party?

If you’ve never been to a sex party, you probably wonder if it’s going to be sleazy or sensual or if the focus is more on the party or on sex. Sex club owners and couples talk frankly about what they’re like in Huffington Post’s latest Love & Sex podcast. There is also lots of great information on the legalities of sex clubs and parties as well as how to navigate, approach, and communicate with partners when it comes to non-monogamy and getting it on with others. It’s a worthy podcast for first-timers to listen to before venturing out to party.

Safe BDSM

There’s no shortage of articles on the Internet about how to practice safe, sane, and consensual kink and BDSM especially for first-timers. However, they’re hard to find. Besides, just because something is on the Internet doesn’t mean that it’s good or credible advice. That’s one of the many reasons why Kinkly exists. Naturally, in Sex Stories We Love, we love to jump on tips like those offered by The Pleasure Chest that busts the fantasies you may have heard elsewhere and give the facts about the gear you want to use, how to use it, and how to play safely with your partner.

Why Translation Matters

A restaurant set to open in Arlington, VA., may very well serve "damn good chicken." Yet some think calling the restaurant "top fucking chicken," "a fuckload of chicken," or "big ole fucker chicken" is taking things a bit too far. The owners of the restaurant were set to name the restaurant Chingon Pollo until they were told that "chingon" could mean any number of variations of the "F" word or even something as innocent as "boss chicken." However, it’s pretty clear in this story in Kitchenette that the restaurant is family-friendly. If you’re set on visiting a restaurant with a kinky theme, you’ll have to go to Alcatraz E.R., a prison-themed restaurant in Japan, where drinks are mixed using sex toys.

Men on Sex

Sometimes it’s hard to know what men think about sex in our society because it’s never been a problem or an issue for them. So, Lady Mystery from Slutty Girl Problems found seven guys who were willing to talk about and air their views on double standards, slut shaming, the word "slut," and society’s views on female sexuality. Some of their thoughts may surprise you. Or maybe not.
