Regardless of where you are in a relationship, it can never hurt to spice things up. But what sexy gifts express just the right sentiment? We asked Sophia Springer, an account manager at PinkCherry.com, about the hottest toys this year. Want to turn things up a notch this Valentine’s Day? Cut to the chase and check out one of these sexy treats, so you can get on with the rest of your V-day agenda (if you know what we mean ...).

BDSM Goodies

BDSM (or bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism) is hardly new, but when "Fifty Shades of Grey" became a smash hit, it did introduce a little kink to a whole new demographic. In layman's terms, BDSM includes dressing up, role-playing, head games, exploring fantasies, pain, power and all different levels of pleasure. But no matter what it includes, one thing's for sure: It's hot.

"Fetish has never been more popular, from beginner products to more advanced and adventurous products," Springer said.

There a lot of ways to introduce a little kink into your repertoire, including ties, crops, blindfolds, restraints and anything else you can think of that turns you on. (And if you can’t think of anything, do some reading already! Check out our section on erotic literature for some great picks.)

Fifty Shades of Sex toys

Speaking of "Fifty Shades," this kinky trilogy managed to put a few sex toys back on the map, which we'd venture to say is a good thing. In 2012, several major sex toy retailers reported sales increases of upwards of 30 percent, which they attributed to an increase in the items featured in the "Fifty Shades" books.

"The biggest success was seen with Ben Wa type balls, or Kegel balls. Once a fairly forgotten category, manufacturers were all scrambling to boost production in 2012, and are still scrambling to meet demands in the market," Springer said.

What’s a Ben Wa ball? It’s a ball or string of balls that are inserted into the vagina to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. It sounds rather, well, unsexy, but strong vaginal muscles make for stronger orgasms. The balls may also be used during sex or along with a vibrator to create different and more intense sensations. Some women also find wearing them arousing. Springer says that LELO Luna Beads and Je Joue AMI are popular picks. You can check out other types here. Give 'em a shot!

Stylish Sex Kits

Looking to drop a hint to your partner? A stylish sex kit can be a smooth way to open the door to some seriously sensual sex play. Springer recommends the Dare Me Pleasure Set from LELO, which includes a suede whip, a silky set of wrist restraints and jet-black version of LELO’s Ben Wa balls. Or try the Adore Me Pleasure Set, which includes a pair of silk and suede Sutra cuffs, a stunning red blindfold and a sleek Mia 2 vibrator. They both come beautifully wrapped in a silk-lined box.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Here’s the deal: Romance always wins. Girls, if you want more romance, try giving more sex. And guys, if you want more sex, try giving more romance! Valentine’s day is a great excuse to make time for both. So light some candles and give each other a massage, pick out some sexy lingerie or play a romance game. What happens after that is up to you. For best results, repeat all year long.
