Kinkly.com was founded by Tara Struyk and Nicole Kelly in 2012.
It was Nicole’s idea—like everyone else that year, she picked up a copy of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” and, like many people who read that book, she was left with a lot of questions. When she went to Google for answers, she came up with … not much.
Just as the public was getting turned on to power dynamics and BDSM and spicing things up with sex toys, the internet was turning out to be a pretty lackluster resource for someone who wanted to give these things a try - or even just understand what they were all about!
The online public was hungry for knowledge about how to have better sex (especially the kinky kind!) Tara and Nicole believed they could develop something new, a resource that would blow the doors off what was considered “acceptable” topics of sexual discussion at the time.
So, they combined their many years of digital media experience to launch Kinkly.com. In doing so, they began what became a massive resource on sexuality that includes the largest dictionary of sex terms on the web, an archive of content on all things sexual, and a directory of hundreds of sex positions for every taste, gender and ability level. They also provided content on taboo sexual subjects to millions of readers worldwide.
Times have changed. Ten years after Kinkly’s launch, you can learn about how to tie up your partner or choose a sex toy in all kinds of publications. We’re proud to have been on the leading edge of that movement, one where we can all be free to pursue the kinds of sex we want to have in ways that are safe, consensual and fun for everyone involved.
To be honest, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into or where it would take us. But it’s been one heck of a journey and we can’t wait to see where we end up!
