The Rose Toy Vibrator is an air suction clitoral vibrator that sucks in the very best ways!

The Product: Rose Suction Stimulator by Cloud 9

The Rating: 4 Kinkly Hearts (Out of Five)

If you spend any amount of time on TikTok, you will likely be familiar with the Rose toy, or Rose Suction Stimulator, as this bad boy is officially known.

It's a clitoral air suction vibrator in a neat little palm-sized package, shaped like a rose.

As a[n occasionally jaded] sex toy reviewer, I felt like a lot of the people gushing over the rose toy in their 10-second videos were people previously unacquainted with clitoral orgasms and that the adulation was likely unwarranted.

The truth is probably a little less harsh. This is a good toy and it's going to get a spot in my bedside table (as opposed to the box in the closet where the B-list toys go). It's not perfect, but I like the air pulse toys and this one is a good version.

How Did You Use the Toy?

Usage is pretty straight forward: Cover your clit with the "mouth" of the toy and turn it on. Which is exactly what I did.

If you have a VCH (vertical clitoral hood) piercing like I do, you might need to do a bit more experimenting to line the toy up with your sweet spot. I found the best way to do it was to maneuver the toy so it covered both ends of the barbell before turning it on. It kind of vibrates the jewelry that way, which was intensely pleasing. Sometimes an air suction toy's mouth isn't wide enough to do that and it takes more fiddling to find a way that works. Depending on your body and your jewelry's shape, you might have better luck with other toys.

I also experimented with the air pulse on the nipples. Some might find it way too ticklish to be sexy, and I found the sensation too "fluttery" to give me pleasure. If you are a person who prefers a lighter touch rather than something like nipple clamps, though, you might enjoy the sensation.

I also found the rose toy a little bit loud, even under a blanket. If you need to be discrete, you will probably need to close your door and turn up some music to hide the whir of the motor.

How Else Could You Use The Rose Toy?

If my Googling is any indication, it seems some people like to use the Rose toy during partnered sex—but I think there are better toys out there for that. Something smaller, flatter or with a handle would be my choice for sexy times a deux. The size and shape of the rose vibrator, in my opinion, make if far better for solo sessions.

It has a degree of waterproofing, so you could use it in the shower (or instruct someone to use it on you). Submerging it in the bathtub might get water where you don't want water, so don't do that.

How Do You Use The Rose Toy?

After using a bunch of remote-control and app-enabled toys, the rose toy's simple user interface is a marked change. It has one button. A long hold starts it, a quick tap changes the vibration and another long press turns it off. Easy-peasy-clitty-squeezy.

To switch it up, you press the button. It starts off with a steady buzz; you press it again to up the intensity and once more for the highest intensity. And I do mean INTENSE-ity.

After the first three presses, you get into the vibration patterns. There are seven to choose from, so if you like an on-off pattern or a steady escalation followed by a pause, you are in luck. Unfortunately, if you find the right rhythm and turn it off or hit the button again, you have to cycle all the way through from the beginning to get back to where you were. I know, tough life—having to push the button seven whole times, but it is something I wanted to mention.

Although these are marketed as "clitoral suction" vibrators, they aren't actually mini vacuum cleaners for your bean. The toy's mouth forms a gentle seal over your clitoris and then air pulses over your clit. It's meant to mimic oral sex, but let's be real: No toy can do an adequate job of simulating the mouth of a person who is happy to have their face between your thighs. I like these toys for what they are, but a good lickin they ain't.

It has a charging stand that feels a little flimsy but does the trick. The charging stand is magnetic and snaps onto charging points on the bottom of the toy. There is a right way to line the magnets up, but it is pretty obvious if you haven't done it correctly: You can feel the magnets repelling and the light won't glow. Out of the box, I was using the toy after charging it for just over an hour.

Materials and Care

The Cloud 9 Rose is made from body-safe silicone, which feels nice and silky in your hands. I don't usually use lube with external toys, but I know some people like the added slickness. If that's you, use a water-based lube and have a cloth handy to wipe your hands, as it will be really slippery and difficult to hold onto if you have lube on your hands.

The flower petals on this toy have deep crevices that will collect lube and, ahem, your own contribution to the mess. A Q-tip or the edge of a paper towel might be needed to thoroughly clean it.

The good news is that the rose toy has a waterproof rating for in the shower. That means you don't have to be obsessively careful about keeping it away from water—just don't submerge it, and be especially careful to keep the charging ports from soaking.

The Packaging

The Rose Suction Stimulator arrived in a standard USPS parcel and the shipping slip said "merchandise"—nothing to announce to the mail carrier or my neighbors that it was a sex toy. The toy itself was in clear plastic clamshell packaging.

The package isn't explicit but it's very clear what the toy is. This isn't the substantial kind of box you get with some toys that are designed to keep and store the toy in; this is definitely something that will end up in the recycling bin sooner than later.

The rose toy comes with a silky black polyester storage bag, which goes a way towards keeping it dust-free and separate from any other silicone toys you may have in your drawer (silicone degrades silicone, so it's best to keep silicone toys and lube away from each other.)

The Short Version

Overall, I gave the Rose Toy four out of five Kinkly hearts. It came just short of the perfect "wouldn't-change-a-thing" five-heart rating, but it's pretty close. And for the price, it's tough to beat!

Pros:

  • It got me off, fast.
  • Nice range of patterns.
  • Looks cute AF.
  • Fast, easy charging.

Cons:

  • It's noisy.
  • Not super easy to clean.
  • Doesn't stay on your preferred setting after you turn it off.

Other Options

Suction vibrators are experiencing their day in the sun right now, and that means you have lots to choose from. Here are my choices for alternates:
